      What Are Volume Lash Extensions?

Volume set eyelash extensions are the most common type of lash extension styles out there. Volume lashes are used to create a dense, dark look for your clients, and allow you to turn a natural set of eyelashes into a beautiful, full, lush set.

For volume lashes, you create fans with multiple extensions to place on every healthy natural lash. Although full and dense, Volume lashes do not weigh down the natural lash, or cause long term damage to natural lashes when applied correctly.

To apply volume lashes to your client, you will create a fan made of 3-8 lash extensions, and use your adhesive to cure them to the existing natural lash.

How Long Do Volume Lashes Last?

A common question your clients will ask you is “how long do volume lashes last?” This partially depends on the quality of your lash extension adhesive, of course. But truly, it depends on your client’s shedding cycle of their natural lashes and your client’s aftercare.

With or without eyelash extensions, all of us shed our natural lashes daily, with new growth of natural lashes. As your client’s natural lashes shed, lash extensions will come out as well, requiring lash fills to place new lash extensions on the new natural lashes. We encourage clients to get their lash fills every 2-3 weeks.

Now, let’s talk about the counterpart to volume eyelashes - classic lash extensions.

      What Are Classic Eyelash Extensions?

Whereas volume lash extensions are designed to create a full, dense look, the classic style is a more natural approach to lash extensions.

Instead of applying fans to your client’s natural lashes, you’ll simply apply a single lash extension to a single natural lash.

Some of your clients will be blessed with naturally full eyelashes. And thus, they just need additional length - not more volume. In these instances, you’ll want to use a classic lash style.

How Long Do Classic Lashes Last?

Because of natural shedding, you can expect Classic Lashes to last 2-3 weeks. But again, this timeline relies on retention from the adhesive, the right technique, aftercare, and the shedding cycle of the natural lash.

What Is The Difference Between Classic Trays And Volume Lash Extension Trays?

At 0.07 thickness and under is considered thin enough for safe volume lashes. Of course, that depends on your client’s natural lash health. 0.10 and up can be used for classic lashes.

Depending on the look your client is going for, you can determine whether they want Classic or Volume style, and choose the faux mink eyelash extensions to create that look. The difference between these is the weight of the extensions.

There is also the Hybrid Lash Style, which is when you use lashes from both classic and volume trays mixed together.

When it comes to getting supplies for both looks, there are Volume lash extension trays, which are designed to easily fan right off the strip, allowing you to quickly hand make your lash fans.

Classic lash extension trays, on the other hand, are not meant to be fanned. They should only be applied to a single, natural eyelash.

Do Classic Or Volume Lashes Last Longer?

We want to reiterate once again that the timeline for how long both classic and volume lashes will last has a lot to do with using a high-retention adhesive, proper application technique, and the natural lash shedding cycle.

But usually, you can expect volume lash extensions to last longer than their classic counterparts. That is because the fans created for volume lashes wrap around the natural lashes, providing the opportunity to wrap around the natural lash, as opposed to classic lashes, which do not wrap.
